Iranian women are taking part in military training organised for ordinary citizens in Iran, photographs published by the Reuters news agency show.
The Iranian army says the aim of the programme is to prepare citizens for national defence.
The photographs show Iranian women volunteers training at a centre set aside for civilians at Imam Hossein Square in central Tehran. One woman is seen learning to fire a gun, and another crossing while hanging from a rope.
At the “Janfada” military training centre in Tehran, women volunteers are shown practising crawling under barbed wire.
Under the “Devoted to Iran” campaign, ordinary women volunteers are being trained in self-defence and the basic handling of military weapons.
