All of Iran’s enriched uranium will stay in Iran, and not a single grain of it will be sent abroad under any circumstances, said Major General Mohsen Rezaei, head of the country’s Supreme National Security Council. He called the nuclear material a national asset of the Iranian people.
Rezaei made the remarks on Tuesday at a meeting in Tehran with Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir. He also said there would be no talks with the United States until Washington met Iran’s conditions for rebuilding trust.
Munir said the border problem between Iran and Pakistan had been resolved and that crossings reopened on Tuesday morning. He praised the deterrent strength of Iran’s armed forces and stressed the need for closer regional cooperation.
According to reports, the latest US proposal calls for Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium to be moved out of the country. Tehran has rejected the demand and says it will keep its right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
No lasting settlement has been reached between the two countries since the 40-day war that began with US and Israeli strikes on Iran on 28 February. Pakistan has been playing an important role as a mediator between Tehran and Washington.
