Abhijit Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, has alleged that Narendra Modi became India’s prime minister by “stealing votes”. He made the allegation at a protest organised jointly by civil society groups and the Cockroach Janta Party in Bengaluru.
A “people’s court” programme was held at Freedom Park in Bengaluru against the disputed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of India’s voter rolls. The popular YouTuber and political commentator Dhruv Rathee and the actor Prakash Raj joined it.
At the rally Dipke accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “murdering democracy and stealing votes”. He announced that the protests would continue until the chief election commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, resigned.
Dipke alleged that the real purpose of removing names from the voter rolls under the SIR was to deprive opponents of the BJP of their right to vote. He said: “We will take to the streets, we will restore democracy, and we will carry on our movement until the CEC resigns.”
