A college lecturer has been killed in a head-on collision between his motorcycle and a tractor in Chuadanga Sadar upazila. He was Md Shahjahan Ali, 40.
The accident happened at about 1pm on Monday (5 October) in an area beside the Hatkaluganj main road in Chuadanga municipality.
Shahjahan Ali was the son of Shawkat Ali of Hogoldanga village in Damurhuda upazila. He was a lecturer in the accounting department of the local Hogoldanga College.
Local sources said Shahjahan Ali was travelling by motorcycle at midday to his workplace and on personal business. When he reached the Hatkaluganj main road area, his motorcycle collided head-on with a soil-laden tractor coming from the opposite direction, leaving him seriously injured. Local people rescued him and took him to hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
The tractor was seized after the accident, but its driver fled. Police visited the scene after being informed and recovered the body. Legal action over the incident is in process.
Chuadanga Sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Moniruzzaman said it was not certain whether the motorcyclist had fallen on his own or collided with the tractor. Further legal steps will be taken after discussion with his relatives when they arrive, he said.
