Md Nuruzzaman Liton, general secretary of the Sharsha upazila BNP, has given financial donations to 32 puja mandaps in Sharsha upazila and Benapole municipality in Jashore for Durga Puja.
Cheques and cash were handed to leaders of the mandaps’ management committees at an event at Hotel Sunrup in Benapole at 5pm on Saturday.
Speakers at the event said Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony, where people of all faiths have long celebrated their own religious festivals freely.
They said Durga Puja has now become a festival for all, and the initiative was taken to help it be celebrated in a joyful and orderly way.
The event was chaired by Nazim Uddin, president of the Benapole municipal BNP, with Nuruzzaman Liton as chief guest.
Also present were Mostafa Kamal Mintu, joint general secretary of the Sharsha upazila BNP; Mostafizzoha Selim, convener of the upazila Jubo Dal; Shariful Islam Chayan, convener of the upazila Chhatra Dal; Baidyanath Das and Nil Kamal, president and general secretary of the Sharsha upazila Puja Udjapan Committee; and Robin Pal, acting president of the Benapole Pathbari Puja Udjapan Committee.
The event was conducted by Sukumar Debnath, first joint general secretary of the Sharsha upazila Puja Udjapan Committee.
