The Naniarchar zone of the Bangladesh Army has organised sewing training to build the skills of young Pahari and Bengali women.

Tailoring Training 2026 was opened on Sunday (4 October) by the zone’s second-in-command, Major Sheikh Mohammad Naim, under the direction of zone commander Lieutenant Colonel Md Moshiur Rahman, as part of the Army’s peace, harmony and development work in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Sixteen women from the Pahari and Bengali communities are taking part, and the course runs until 15 October.

The organisers said the trainees are receiving theoretical and practical training in sewing and cutting, and that the Army believes hands-on training alongside formal education can turn people into skilled workers, with women’s skills and self-reliance playing an important part in families’ and communities’ development.

Trainees said tailoring is a practical, job-related skill that will help them meet their own needs and could become a source of income; some hope to open their own tailoring shops or become entrepreneurs and create jobs for others. Training people from all communities together, they said, can help build a peaceful and prosperous Naniarchar.

Zone commander Lt Col Mohammad Moshiur Rahman said the course is part of the Army’s work for the welfare and development of the Hill Tracts’ communities, and the zone will continue such programmes.
