BDDesk News, In Narayanganj’s Rupganj, a major clash between two groups of volunteer groups centered on an autorickshaw side business left 16 leaders and activists injured. During the incident on Monday (May 11) afternoon in the Baruna area of Kayetpara Union in the upazila, both sides attacked each other’s homes and businesses, causing widespread damage and looting. It is learned that a week ago, a dispute arose between district volunteer group deputy convener Rafikul Islam’s brother Amin Hossain and district volunteer group information and research secretary Bilhal Hossain Khan over an electric autorickshaw side business. Bilhal Hossain filed a complaint with Rupganj Police Station regarding the incident. In accordance with the previously decided plan, a judicial inquiry was organized on Monday afternoon in the Baruna area to investigate the matter. Rafiqul Islam and Bilal Hossain, along with their supporters, were present at the inquiry. During the hearing, both sides engaged in heated arguments, causing the situation to spiral out of control. People from both sides clashed, brandishing traditional weapons and firearms. At this point, Bilhal Hossain’s group fired several rounds of indiscriminate gunfire, creating an atmosphere of sheer terror among the general public. Attackers targeted each other’s residential areas and business establishments during the clash, causing extensive damage and looting property. At least 16 leaders and activists from both sides were injured. The wounded were rescued and admitted to various hospitals in Dhaka. Narayanganj district volunteer team senior caller Rafikul Islam claimed that Bilhal Hossain Khan and his gang had deliberately attacked them and opened fire. On the other hand, Bilhal Hossain Khan alleged, “Rafiqul Islam’s supporters launched an unprovoked attack and looting. Rupganj Thana’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) AHM Salauddin said, “Police reached the scene immediately after receiving the news and brought the situation under control. Currently, the situation is under control and additional police have been deployed in the area. An investigation into the clash and firing incident will be conducted, and legal action will be taken.
