Moheshpur holds workshop on boosting imitation jewelry production

The Shishu Nilay Foundation event brought together about 50 entrepreneurs from an upazila industry that employs 6,000-7,000 workers.

A workshop was held with manufacturers in Moheshpur, Jhenaidah, aimed at boosting production of imitation jewelry, organized by Shishu Nilay Foundation under one of its designated projects.

Moheshpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Sajjad Hossain spoke as chief guest at the workshop, held Tuesday morning in the municipality hall room under the Shishu Nilay Foundation initiative. Selina Rahman, deputy manager of BSCIC Jhenaidah, spoke as special guest. Chemical traders Taijul Islam and Amir Hossain also spoke at the event. Around 50 entrepreneurs took part in the workshop, which covered boosting imitation jewelry production and market demand, along with various challenges facing the sector.

Moheshpur’s imitation jewelry industry holds a significant share of the national market. Roughly 6,000 to 7,000 workers are employed in the trade in the upazila, with around 2,000 to 3,000 entrepreneurs involved. Speakers called for government support to help sustain the industry. The event was conducted by Imdadul Hossain, project manager for Shishu Nilay Foundation’s initiative.
