The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a truckload of Indian sarees, three-piece sets and cosmetics worth more than one crore taka, carried without any documents, from the Benapole bazar area of Jashore.

According to the BGB, the consignment was seized from the Durgapur intersection of Benapole bazar at around 1 a.m. on Sunday night (June 21).

The BGB said that, acting on intelligence, it had learnt that a dishonest ring was moving a large quantity of Indian sarees, three-piece sets and cosmetics from the port area across Benapole bazar. ‘On the basis of such information, on the instruction of the commanding officer, we conducted an operation at the Durgapur intersection, detained a truck and brought it to the camp,’ it said.

When the driver, the helper and a man named Indrajit who were in the truck were asked for valid documents for the goods, they could not produce any, the BGB said. The truck was then opened and the large consignment of Indian sarees, three-piece sets and cosmetics was seized.

Truck driver Mohsin Ali, helper Zahid Hasan and a man named Indrajit were detained over the incident. The value of the seized goods would be above one crore taka, the BGB said.
