The Dhaka Stock Exchange PLC (DSE) has welcomed a decision by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) granting the country’s stock exchanges the authority to independently set and enforce market control parameters.
In a press release on Thursday (July 2), the DSE described the move as a significant milestone for the capital market that will enhance efficiency and help align Bangladesh’s stock market with international standards.
BSEC issued the order on July 1 under Section 20A of the Securities and Exchange Ordinance, 1969. The order directs the DSE and the Chittagong Stock Exchange PLC (CSE) to independently set and implement market regulation parameters in accordance with their own regulations and policies.
The objectives of the order include ensuring proper investor protection, fair and transparent trading, maintaining an orderly market environment, and facilitating the overall development of the capital market.
Under the new order, both exchanges will have the authority to determine various operational control parameters. However, any changes to these parameters must be immediately communicated to BSEC.
