A road accident in Baraigram, Natore, has killed four people, including two brothers from the same family and a third resident of the same neighborhood. Two others injured in the crash remain under treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Najmul Hossain, 35, died around 12:30 p.m. Saturday while undergoing treatment in the ICU at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. He was the son of Sadek Mondol from the Dhamaniapara neighborhood of Baraigram municipality.
Earlier, two brothers, Akkas Ali and Jahangir Alam, both from Dhamaniapara, along with Najmul Hossain from the same neighborhood and Abdur Rahman from Lakshmipur neighborhood, died in the accident. All of the deceased and injured were involved in the cattle trade.
The accident occurred on August 8 when a passenger bus operated by RR Travels, traveling from Dhaka to Rajshahi, collided head-on with a cattle-laden “bhutbhuti” (a local three-wheeled vehicle) in the Nayabazar area of Gurudaspur upazila on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway. Two people died at the scene. A third person died the following day while under treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Najmul Hossain died Saturday.
Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge (additional charge) of Bonpara Highway Police Station, said the casualties occurred when the bus collided with the cattle-laden vehicle, which was headed to the Chandaikona cattle market. The bus has been seized following the accident, and a case has been filed. Police are continuing efforts to arrest the bus driver, who fled the scene.
