Residents in Mirsarai, Chattogram, caught three alleged members of a CNG auto-rickshaw theft ring and had them perform 100 voluntary rakahs before releasing them. The incident occurred Wednesday night near the Gangchil Filling Station at Mithachhara market.

Two of the detainees were identified as Belal Hossain of the Baraiyarhat area and Rifat Hossain of East Motbaria. Local sources said the three-member group stole a CNG auto-rickshaw from Mithachhara three days earlier. Residents reviewed CCTV footage and tried to identify the suspects before detaining the three the previous night.

They were made to recite a repentance pledge not to steal again and then pray 100 voluntary rakahs before being released. Local Jubo Dal leader Amzad Hossain Babu said the initiative was intended to give the alleged offenders a chance to reform and avoid physical abuse.

Resident Nur Hossain Mia said the group had been involved in theft for a long time, but the detainees were released after repenting and praying without being beaten. Mirsarai police station officer-in-charge Farida Yasmin said police were not aware of the incident and that no complaint had been filed.
