A businessman was found dead at his home in Ghior upazila, Manikganj, on Wednesday morning (July 1). His family said he had been under severe mental pressure over unpaid loan installments from banks and NGOs.

The deceased, Chandan Bhagat, 58, was from the Kushta Bandar (Murihat) area of the upazila’s Sadar union and the son of the late Baidyanath (Debnath) Bhagat.

Family members found him on the second floor of his home early Wednesday and alerted Ghior police. Sub-Inspector Masud arrived with a team, prepared an inquest report, and sent the body to Manikganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

His wife, Nupur Robi Das, said her husband had been under mental strain for months over loan installments from various banks and NGOs. On Tuesday, representatives from lending institutions came to the house to collect payments. Unable to pay, he stayed away from home all day. The incident occurred that night without the family’s knowledge, she said.

Ghior OC Mir Mahbubur Rahman said the family reported the loan pressure. An unnatural death case has been filed, and the actual cause of death will be confirmed after the investigation and autopsy report, he said.
