Gangni police have arrested Montu Shah, a fugitive accused in the murder case of Tapan Hossen in the Gangni upazila of Meherpur.
Acting on secret information, a police team led by the in-charge of the Bhabanipur police camp in Gangni, Abdul Karim, raided Karamdi village in the same upazila last night and arrested him, police said.
Montu Shah is the son of Fazal Ali of the Puratanpara area of Harabhanga village in Gangni upazila. He was sent to Meherpur jail custody through the court at around 11 a.m. on Sunday (June 21).
The officer-in-charge of Gangni police station, Mohaddid Morshed, confirmed the information.
On December 20 last year, police recovered the body of Tapan Hossen from a papaya orchard between the Harabhanga and Sahebnagar fields in Gangni upazila. Over the incident, Tapan’s wife, Ashika Yasmin Rupa, filed a murder case against unidentified persons at Gangni police station. The case, numbered 22 and dated December 22, 2025, was filed under sections 302/34.
Police listed seven people as suspects in the case, and the arrested man was named as the sixth accused, the OC said.
OC Mohaddid Morshed added that Montu Shah and the other accused had been on the run since the case was filed. After the completion of legal formalities, the arrested man was sent to jail through the court, he said, adding that police operations were continuing to arrest the other accused.
