On 8 July, US President Donald Trump boarded Air Force One in Ankara, Turkey. But he was then moved, inside a catering container, onto a small C-32A aircraft.
That small aircraft took him from Turkey to Britain under great secrecy, a US official who did not wish to be named told The Washington Post.
Several US media outlets said Trump had gone to Ankara on the new Air Force One received from Qatar to attend a NATO summit, but that he left Turkey on a small military transport plane because of a threat to his life.
It was mainly because of a threat from Iranian-backed groups that he had to decide at the last moment to change aircraft. Journalists aboard the older plane returning from Ankara were told to keep the window blinds down.
In a video published by The Washington Post, a catering truck is seen being lowered from the old Air Force One just minutes after Trump boarded, and moving towards the small C-32A parked some distance away.
After the two aircraft reached the United Kingdom, a video shows Trump getting off the larger plane and heading towards the new Air Force One. How he returned to the larger aircraft, however, could not be confirmed.
Like the old Air Force One, this new aircraft does not have adequate security systems, or even a “missile-defence system.”
But White House communications director Steven Cheung, in a statement defending the new aircraft’s security, said the new Air Force One was a state-of-the-art aircraft equipped with high-grade security systems that ensured the safety of the president and his officials.
