NEW DELHI — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the United Arab Emirates of being “directly involved” in military operations conducted against Iran.

Araghchi made the allegation Thursday at a BRICS meeting in New Delhi, according to Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency.

The report said Araghchi made the remarks in response to comments by the UAE representative at the meeting. The Iranian foreign minister said he initially did not name the UAE in his own remarks for the sake of unity. However, he said the UAE did not condemn the attacks against Iran and was directly involved in the aggression. The UAE has not immediately responded to the accusation.

In Beijing, U.S. President Donald Trump is likely to seek China’s help to end the costly and unpopular war with Iran during his meeting with President Xi Jinping. It is the first visit to China by a sitting U.S. president since 2017.

Analysts said Trump is unlikely to get the support he wants from Xi. A makeshift ceasefire that took effect a month ago has produced little diplomatic progress. The war has killed thousands of people and reshaped the Middle East, with global oil markets paying a steep price.

Araghchi called on BRICS member states to jointly condemn U.S. and Israeli aggression against Iran.
