Remittances reach Tk 232 billion in first 17 days of August

Bangladesh received $1.887 billion in remittances from expatriate workers during the first 17 days of August. That amounts to Tk 232.101 billion in local currency, at an exchange rate of Tk 123 per dollar.

Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan confirmed the figures Tuesday, August 18.

According to the figures he provided, Tk 12.054 billion in remittances arrived on Monday, August 17, alone. Remittances during the first 17 days of August last year totaled $1.424 billion. Compared with that, remittances during the same period this year have risen by 32.60 percent.

Looking at the overall picture for the current fiscal year (July 1 through August 17), remittances have totaled $4.746 billion so far. During the same period of the previous fiscal year, remittances totaled $3.902 billion. That marks a 21.60 percent increase in remittances during the same period this year compared with the previous fiscal year.
