DHAKA — Twelve more people have died of measles and measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, and 1,524 additional people were identified as having the disease or its symptoms, the country’s health authority said Thursday.
The figures were released in the daily report of the Directorate General of Health Services on Thursday, May 7.
Five of the deaths were recorded in Dhaka division, the directorate said. Two deaths were reported in Rajshahi division, and one death each in Barishal, Khulna, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, for a combined four. One person also died of confirmed measles in Dhaka division in the past 24 hours.
Of the new cases, 286 measles infections were confirmed nationwide in the past 24 hours, and another 1,238 people showed symptoms of the disease. Since March 15, a total of 45,498 people have been identified with measles symptoms, and 6,208 cases have been confirmed.
According to the directorate’s report, 31,912 people have been hospitalized with measles symptoms nationwide since March 15. Of those, 28,238 have since been discharged after recovering.
