A BNP leader, Md. Sohel Mahmud, 45, was killed when a bus hit him in Hatiya, Noakhali. The accident occurred around 11 a.m. on Wednesday (June 17) in front of the Boyerchar Manik counter on the Subarnachar-Chairmanghat road in the upazila’s Horoni union.
Sohel Mahmud, a former president of the Horoni union BNP, had been living with his family at the home of Forest Siraj in Charbata union of Subarnachar upazila after erosion by the Meghna river, sources said.
On Wednesday morning he set out by motorcycle from the house for his own village home in Chanandi union. On the way, a bus hit him as he reached the Boyerchar Manik counter area in Horoni union, throwing him onto the road.
He suffered injuries to his abdomen, hand and leg. He died around 12:15 p.m. while being taken to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital.
Md. Kabir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Hatiya police station, said he had heard of the incident but that the victim’s family had not yet lodged any complaint at the station.
