Zia Rahman Foundation Vice-Chairman Zubaida Rahman said, “Healthcare is not a privilege for the people — it is a fundamental right of the people of this country.”

She made the remarks at a workshop on charting a roadmap for health entrepreneurship development in Bangladesh, held in Gulshan in the capital on Tuesday (July 7) morning.

Emphasizing the importance of developing young people as health entrepreneurs to address future challenges in the country’s health sector, Dr. Zubaida Rahman said young people must be given training, mentorship and necessary support to turn their innovative ideas into reality, so they can play an effective role in solving the health sector’s problems.

She said the government is working to provide universal health protection and deliver healthcare to every citizen with dignity and respect.

She added: “We have a vast young generation whose strength, digital skills and thinking are among our greatest national assets. This year, the government is working to deliver primary healthcare at the village level.”

The Zia Rahman Foundation vice-chairman said medicines produced in Bangladesh are in no way inferior in quality — most are high-grade and are being exported to various countries around the world.

Zubaida Rahman said the country has faced poverty, disasters, disease, displacement and repression for various reasons, but its people have courageously confronted these challenges. She said the current government is working with the goal of disease prevention and health awareness, and to this end, trained health workers are going village to village and door to door to identify diarrhea, high blood pressure, diabetes, malnutrition and other problems at an early stage.

She said Bangladesh is now facing new health challenges — non-communicable diseases are rising, the population is aging, climate change is creating new risks, and urbanization is changing how people live, work and access healthcare. No single institution or sector can address these challenges alone; they require new thinking and new partnerships.
