The price of gold jewelry has been raised in the domestic market. The price of the best-quality, or 22-karat, gold jewelry has been increased by Tk 3,849 per bhori (11.664 grams). With this increase, the price of one bhori of best-quality gold jewelry, including VAT, has been set at Tk 240,628.

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) said the new price took effect from 10:00 a.m. Thursday.

Under the new rate, the price of one bhori of 21-karat gold is Tk 229,781, 18-karat gold is Tk 197,355, and traditional-method gold has been set at Tk 161,196.

Alongside gold, the price of silver has also risen. The price of one bhori of 22-karat silver, including VAT, has been raised by Tk 233 to Tk 5,307. The price of 21-karat silver has been set at Tk 5,074, 18-karat at Tk 4,374, and traditional-method silver at Tk 3,324.

Bajus said the new rates will remain in effect at all jewelry establishments across the country until a further decision is made. However, making charges will apply depending on the design of the jewelry. Since VAT is included in the sale price, customers cannot be charged VAT separately.

Bajus had last adjusted gold prices on August 15. At that time, the price of one bhori of 22-karat gold was raised by Tk 2,158 to Tk 236,779.

With this latest increase, Bajus has adjusted gold prices 105 times so far this year. Of these, prices were raised 53 times, lowered 51 times, and adjusted once for VAT.

Separately, silver prices have been adjusted 63 times this year, with 33 increases and 30 decreases.
