The government’s Cabinet Committee on Public Purchases has approved proposals to buy two cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for September at prices above $24 per unit.

The approval was given at a committee meeting held Monday at the Secretariat, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

Under the approved proposal, one LNG cargo will be purchased from South Korea’s largest trading company, POSCO International Corporation, for delivery between September 13 and 14, at a price of $24.625 per million British thermal units (MMBtu).

A second cargo will be purchased from the United Kingdom’s TotalEnergies Gas & Power Limited for delivery between September 23 and 24, at a price of $24.25 per MMBtu.

The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources presented the proposal to the committee through a request-for-quotation (RFQ) process under Rule 105(3)(a) of the Public Procurement Rules 2025. The committee approved the proposal after reviewing the procurement process and the recommended bidders’ offers.

Bangladesh remains heavily dependent on imported LNG to meet rising demand for power generation and industry. The government has now approved the purchase of two more LNG cargoes for September.
