Police have recovered the body of an unidentified elderly man from the Chandipul area of Sylhet city’s South Surma. The body was recovered near the open area of Unnayan University at Chandipul on Tuesday (May 12) night around 10 pm.
According to police sources, locals spotted a person in a semi-conscious state by the side of the road in the Chandipul area and informed South Surma Police Station. Upon receiving the report, police personnel rushed to the scene, rescued the individual, and took him to Sylhet MG Osmani Medical College Hospital. After examination by doctors on duty at the hospital, he was declared dead around 1:40 am.
On Wednesday (May 13), OC Ashrafuzzaman of South Surma Police Station, Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP), confirmed that the elderly man was over 70 years old. He added that the elderly man, found in a semi-conscious state, died at Osmani Hospital after being taken there by police during the night.
He further said the body has been kept in the morgue of Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained yet. Messages have been sent to nearby police stations for identification. It is requested that if anyone recognizes the dead person, they should contact the South Surma Police Station.
