Child dies after hornet attack in Munshiganj

A four-year-old boy has died after being stung by hornets in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj. The incident took place on Sunday (2 August) afternoon in the Chowkidar Para area of North Kusumpur village in Ichhapura union of the upazila.

According to police and local sources, the boy pulled at a leafy branch while playing in the yard beside his home on Sunday afternoon. A swarm of hornets then emerged from a nest in the bushes and attacked him all at once. His face and eyes swelled and reddened, and he fell unconscious.

Family members rescued him and first took him to the Sirajdikhan upazila health complex. After first aid there, his condition deteriorated and he was referred to Dhaka. He was later taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital in Dhaka, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Dr Sabina, a physician at the Sirajdikhan upazila health complex, said the boy had been brought in seriously injured and was sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment after first aid.

Sirajdikhan police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Alauddin confirmed the incident, saying a boy had died from hornet stings and calling it a deeply sad and tragic event.
