Two young cousins drowned in a pond in Srinagar, Munshiganj. Both boys’ fathers work abroad in Saudi Arabia.

They were pulled from a pond in Kathalbari village, Bagra union, in the upazila around 11 a.m. Sunday, August 23, and taken to hospital, where a doctor declared them dead.

The two boys were cousins from a family in Kathalbari village’s Molla Bari — the elder, 5, and his younger cousin, 3 and a half.

It is understood that the two energetic boys had been playing together since morning. At one point, unable to find them, family members began searching. When they could not be found anywhere, local residents searched the pond beside the house. They were pulled out unconscious and rushed to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex, where attending physician Dr. Kanta Das declared both boys dead.

Upazila Family Planning Officer Dr. Jasim Uddin said the two boys were brought to the hospital, where attending physician Dr. Kanta Das declared them dead.
