Police have arrested a local Jubo League leader in Kalmakanda upazila, Netrokona, on charges of obstructing a government drainage project on public (khas) land, officials said.

Mohammad Anwar Hossain, also known as Kala, 47, was arrested from the Palashhati area of Pogla union on Friday. He is the ward-3 president of Pogla union Jubo League, according to local sources.

A written complaint was previously filed at Kalmakanda police station accusing him of obstructing the construction of a drainage canal on government khas land designated for water discharge, encroaching on government land, and assaulting an individual.

Locals alleged that prolonged encroachment of the government land had blocked natural water drainage from agricultural fields in the area, causing waterlogging during the monsoon season and annual crop losses. When a government initiative to construct the drainage canal began, Anwar Hossain obstructed the work, they said.

Kalmakanda police station officer-in-charge (investigation) Sajal Sarkar said the accused has been arrested following the investigation and legal proceedings are underway.
