The present generation is the country’s future, so students must prepare themselves to build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said.

He made the remarks to students taking part in a lunch in the VIP cafeteria of the parliament building on Sunday.

Students, teachers and visitors who had come from various educational institutions to watch the parliamentary session had lunch at the National Parliament building, hosted by Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman.

The prime minister’s deputy press secretary, Zahidul Islam Roni, gave the information.

He said 29 students from the law department of the Canadian University of Bangladesh, 21 people including disadvantaged students and teachers who came through Surovi — an associate organisation of the Gonoshakkharota Obhijan (Campaign for Popular Education) — and 16 students and teachers from the Tejgaon College Debating Society took part in the lunch.

Roni said the prime minister asked after the students and talked with them on various matters, telling them to give importance to sports alongside their studies and to grow into worthy, skilled and good citizens.

The students and teachers expressed heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the head of government for the chance to attend the lunch he hosted. As part of the parliament-visit programme, the students learned about the workings of the parliament secretariat, visited the parliament library, had a photo session at the North Plaza, and observed proceedings in the parliamentary chamber.
