Education directorate orders ban on tobacco company CSR activities in schools

Educational institutions have been directed to take the necessary steps to ban the conduct and implementation of activities under tobacco companies’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs. They have also been asked to send information on these measures to the relevant office by 4 p.m. on June 15.

The directive was issued on Friday (June 12) in a letter posted on the website of the Directorate of Technical Education. The letter was sent to all regional directors and the heads of all technical educational institutions.

It said: “The necessary activities must be undertaken and implemented to ensure compliance with the provisions of Section 5(3) of the Smoking and Tobacco Products Use (Control) (Amendment) Act, 2026.” The directive asked that information on the implementation of these activities be sent to the relevant office by 4 p.m. on June 15. It said the information must be sent by email to dte.ad2@gmail.com, as a soft copy (in Nikosh font) and a hard copy (in PDF format).

A letter from the Technical and Madrasah Education Division and a letter from the Health Services Division were attached on the matter.
