DHAKA — Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milon said education will serve as the bridge between China and Bangladesh. He said relations between the two countries will play a leading role in developing Bangladesh’s education sector.
The minister, who also holds the primary and mass education portfolio, made the remarks at a China-Bangladesh Roundtable on Governance Experience Exchange held at a Dhaka hotel on Friday, May 8. The Ministry of Education later released the information in a news bulletin.
“The current government is emphasizing improving relations with various countries, including China, for the development of education and all other sectors,” the minister said. “We are also planning to allocate 5 percent of GDP to education, which will be invested based on effectiveness. The government wants to further strengthen cooperation with China in education and technical sectors to build the current generation as skilled and globally competitive human resources.”
Highlighting the strong ties between the two countries, he said, “Bangladesh’s relationship with China is long-standing. The late President Ziaur Rahman emphasized building this relationship. This relationship will play a special role in building the future Bangladesh we aspire to.”
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen expressed hope for multidimensional cooperation with the government. He affirmed commitments to bilateral development, security and moving forward together in any circumstance amid the current changing world order.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor A.B.M. Obaidul Islam, CCS Academic Board Chairman Chen Dongxiao and Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) Director General A.S.M. Ridwanur Rahman delivered brief remarks at the event.
