A man was killed and his wife was critically injured when their motorcycle collided head-on with a chicken-carrying pickup truck in Rajbari Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon.
The accident occurred in the Chandpur area of Chandani union on the Rajbari-Kushtia regional highway.
Police and local sources said the motorcycle, traveling from the opposite direction, collided with a pickup truck heading from Rajbari toward Kushtia. The impact crushed the motorcycle, killing the rider Johan, 34, at the scene and critically injuring his wife.
Johan, the son of Mosharraf, was from the Kotwali police station area in Faridpur. The couple had attended a wedding and were heading back to Rajbari when the accident occurred. They have a two-month-old daughter.
His wife, Setu Akter, was initially taken to Rajbari Sadar Hospital and later referred to Faridpur for advanced treatment. She is currently being treated at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in Dhaka.
Eyewitness Liton said locals arranged to take the injured woman to the hospital. The victim’s body was later found lying in nearby water. Police were informed and recovered the body.
Pangsha Highway police station officer-in-charge Syed Al Mamun confirmed the incident and said the pickup driver fled the scene. Highway police are working to identify and arrest the driver.
