Police seized 42 kilograms of cannabis and arrested two suspected drug dealers in a special operation in the Niribilli bus stand area of Nabinagar, Savar.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Detective Branch) Md. Zahidul Islam disclosed the details at a press briefing at the Savar DB office on Thursday (July 2) afternoon.
The arrested men are Md. Masum, 22, son of Muktar Hosen from Titas upazila in Comilla, and Md. Soyeb Sheikh, 20, son of Md. Jamal Sheikh from Jibannagar upazila in Chuadanga.
Zahidul Islam said the operation was led by DB (North) officer-in-charge Saidul Islam. A team including Sub-Inspector Md. Nafiul Islam set up a checkpoint on the Dhaka-Aricha highway near the Niribilli bus stand on Wednesday night. The two men were arrested with 42 kilograms of cannabis, and a white private car used for transporting the drugs was seized.
The DB police said the estimated market value of the cannabis is approximately 12.6 lakh taka, and the seized vehicle is worth approximately 22 lakh taka.
In preliminary interrogation, the arrested men said they had procured the cannabis wholesale from the Comilla and Brahmanbaria area and were transporting it to Chuadanga for sale via the Dhaka-Aricha highway.
Police said Masum has a prior snatching case against him. A case under the Narcotics Control Act is being processed at the local police station.
