TEHRAN — About 1,300 Iranian schools were damaged in the recent war with the United States, and more than half have already been repaired, Iran said, according to a report published by Al Jazeera on Wednesday.
Iranian Education Minister Alireza Kazemi told the state news agency IRNA that 775 of the schools damaged in U.S. and Israeli attacks had been repaired.
“About 20 schools were completely destroyed. The worst damage was in Tehran, Kermanshah, Isfahan and Hormozgan provinces,” Kazemi said.
He said repairs to the most heavily damaged schools were expected to be finished by October.
Teaching never stopped during the U.S. attacks, Kazemi said. During the war, classes continued in person, through other means and even on “Iranian Television School,” he said.
Counseling was also arranged for students, he said. He cited the Shazhare Tayyebe girls’ school in Minab, where a missile strike killed about 170 people. Schools across the country have held memorial gatherings for the dead with teachers and students, he said.
