Dhaka:
Israel was kept out of a U.S. ceasefire and a potential deal with Iran, leaving the country dissatisfied, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to ease tensions in the relationship with Washington, Al Jazeera reported.
Strains were rising between the two sides, the network said, although Netanyahu had insisted on X that the U.S.-Israel relationship was still strong. Inside Israel, there was deep concern about the possible deal, and Israeli officials who had seen the draft were not at all satisfied with it.
Al Jazeera correspondent Nida Ibrahim, reporting from Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, said Israel’s main concern was that the deal did not explicitly include the removal of Iran’s highly enriched uranium or a permanent end to Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Netanyahu had reportedly ordered his officials not to comment publicly on the matter, the report said. The Israeli prime minister was said to be taking a cautious approach to managing his relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump and wanted to avoid any missteps.
Israeli broadcaster Channel 12 reported that a potential deal that ended the continuing conflict in Lebanon could limit Israel’s military operations. There was concern about that prospect within the Israeli military, the report said, particularly after casualties from drone attacks launched from Lebanon.
Analysts said the United States and Israel had worked together since the war with Iran but that policy differences between them were now widening. If a U.S.-Iran ceasefire deal took effect, it could affect Israel’s military strategy, particularly on Hezbollah and Iran, they said.
