Bangladesh’s participation in international film festivals across various countries has grown in recent times. Beyond mere participation, news of award wins has become a regular occurrence. This time, Bangladeshi film “Manusher Bagan” (Garden of People) has won the Best Critics Award at the NABC North America Bengali Conference held in New York, United States. Separately, three Bangladeshi films — “Roid,” “Delupi” and “Balur Nogorite” — have earned selection at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2026 in Australia.
The 46th North American Bengali Conference was held in New York from July 2-6. The four-day Bangla Sammelan brought together cultural figures from Bangladesh and West Bengal. The event celebrated Bengali heritage and culture through music, drama and film screenings. Nurul Alam Atik’s “Manusher Bagan” was screened on the festival’s final day. Attending audiences praised the film. Alongside audience acclaim, “Manusher Bagan” won the competition’s Best Critics Award. The film had earlier won the Best Film award at the 15th Delhi International Film Festival held in New Delhi, India’s capital.
“Manusher Bagan” follows five stories of people from different classes and professions in society. The cast includes Jyotika Jyoti, Manoj Pramanik, Archita Sporshia, Prosoon Azad, Munira Mithu and Dipanwita Martin, among others.
Meanwhile, the 17th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will be held in Melbourne, Australia, from August 13-23. Mejbaur Rahman Sumon’s “Roid,” Mohammad Toukir Islam’s “Delupi” and Mehedi Hasan’s “Balur Nogorite” have earned selection in the festival’s Best Film from the Subcontinent category.
This is the first time three Bangladeshi films have received nominations together at this festival. The category also includes two films each from Afghanistan and Nepal and one from Sri Lanka. “Roid,” “Delupi” and “Balur Nogorite” have previously taken part in film festivals in various countries. “Roid” and “Delupi” have already been released in cinemas in Bangladesh. “Roid,” released last Eid al-Adha, is still running in Cineplex theaters.
