Police have handed over 108 recovered lost mobile phones and 1.743 million taka recovered from fraud cases to their rightful owners in Meherpur. Superintendent of Police Uttam Kumar Roy handed over the phones and money to their owners at the district SP office premises around 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The phones and cash were recovered over the past two months through operations by the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell in Meherpur.
Police said the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell recovered the 108 lost mobile phones in June and July 2026 across three police stations in the district, based on general diary complaints filed by owners. During the same period, 26 Facebook accounts were also recovered. In addition, 1.684 million taka was recovered based on police-station complaints from victims defrauded through bKash and Nagad mobile financial services, and 59,000 taka was recovered based on six complaints related to money mistakenly transferred through mobile banking. A total of 1.743 million taka was handed over to the rightful owners.
Superintendent of Police Uttam Kumar Roy said: “In cases of cybercrime such as online gambling, visa fraud involving false promises of overseas jobs, bKash fraud, and online shopping scams, victims should come to the police station. The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell is working to provide legal assistance to victims.”
He also advised the public not to share mobile banking OTPs with anyone and to verify sellers before making online purchases, to avoid falling victim to online fraud.
