Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, has condemned what he called the “horrific crime” at a primary school in Minab, Hormuzgan province, and demanded full accountability for what Iran characterises as a war crime against children, ParsToday reported, citing the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting.

Iravani made the statements at the UN Security Council’s annual session on children and armed conflict, which was convened to review the UN Secretary-General’s 2025 report on the subject. He said the report had not adequately reflected the humanitarian consequences of what Iran describes as a 12-day Israeli military offensive against Iran in June 2025, during which, Iran’s ambassador said, 47 Iranian children were killed.

“We cannot discuss child protection without addressing one of the worst war crimes committed against Iranian children by the United States and Israel,” Iravani said, according to ParsToday. He said US and Israeli forces deliberately targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure during the conflict, striking numerous schools and education facilities.

Iravani said the worst single incident occurred at a primary school in Minab, where, he said, 264 students were in class when two US missiles struck the building. He said 168 female students aged between seven and twelve, along with their teachers and parents, were killed, with more than 96 others injured. He said many of the bodies were so severely disfigured they could not be identified.

In total, Iran says 220 children were killed during the conflict, including 17 under the age of five. “The memory of the children of Minab demands justice, accountability and concrete action. Silence here is unacceptable. Child protection must not be selective. International law must apply equally to all,” Iravani said.

Iran’s government regards the 12-day war as an act of aggression by the United States and Israel. The claims in this report reflect the position stated by Iran’s ambassador at the Security Council session and have not been independently verified.
