Gas supply to the national grid has begun to increase amid a prolonged shortage, as both floating LNG terminals in Moheshkhali have resumed gas deliveries. Authorities said supply from both terminals is expected to return to normal levels by August 19.

The Summit LNG Terminal resumed normal gas supply at 4 a.m. on Saturday.

Sources said an LNG carrier bound for the Summit terminal turned back to Singapore on August 10 due to adverse weather and strong winds, reducing the terminal’s daily output by 300 million cubic feet.

A replacement LNG carrier arrived at the terminal on August 14, and after completing the necessary procedures, gas supply resumed from early Saturday morning.

The Summit terminal is currently supplying approximately 460 million cubic feet per day, which will gradually be restored to the normal level of 500 million cubic feet.

Meanwhile, the Excelerate Energy-operated LNG terminal, which had halted operations due to a mechanical fault, has partially resumed after repairs. It is currently supplying an average of approximately 300 million cubic feet per day to the national grid.

Sources said repairs are expected to be completed by August 19, at which point the terminal’s output will be restored to its normal capacity of approximately 600 million cubic feet per day.

Under normal conditions, the Summit terminal supplies approximately 500 million cubic feet and the Excelerate terminal approximately 600 million cubic feet per day, for a combined total of approximately 1,100 million cubic feet.

The two terminals are currently supplying a combined total of approximately 760 million cubic feet per day — 460 from Summit and 300 from Excelerate.

Authorities expect supply from both terminals to return to the normal combined total of 1,100 million cubic feet per day by August 19.
