A 65-year-old man, Abdul Jabbar, was allegedly strangled to death by his nephew, Chapal, over the flow of rainwater in Mahadebpur, Naogaon.
The incident happened at midday on Monday (29 June) in Chhoto Maheshpur village of the upazila.
The deceased, Abdul Jabbar, was the son of the late Tasir Uddin of Maheshpur village.
According to local accounts, Abdul Jabbar and Chapal — the son of his brother Abdur Hai — had a long-running land dispute. At midday on Monday, rainwater was running from the direction of Abdul Jabbar’s house across Chapal’s land, and an argument broke out between uncle and nephew over the water flow.
At one point, the nephew, Chapal, allegedly lifted his uncle, slammed him down and gripped his throat, killing Abdul Jabbar, according to local accounts. Locals rescued him and took him to Mahadebpur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Mahadebpur police station officer-in-charge Md Omar Faruk confirmed the incident, saying: “On receiving the news, we set out for the scene. Legal action will be taken in this matter.”
