A 45-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, Abdul Mannan, was killed and his CNG-run auto-rickshaw robbed by miscreants in Sariakandi upazila, Bogura.

Police recovered his body from beside the Koi-Khali wetland in Daripara village of the upazila at around 11am on Monday (29 June).

The deceased, Mannan, was the son of Afzal Hossain of Maliandanga village in Gabtali upazila of the district and a member of the Bogura District Motor Workers’ Union.

The victim’s family said Mannan left home with his CNG on Sunday (28 June) morning, as he did every day. He drove on the Cheloapara stand-to-Sariakandi route in Bogura town. Colleagues last saw him at the Cheloapara stand at around 9:30pm. When he did not return home, family members and colleagues searched for him in various places from Monday morning.

At one point, locals spotted a body in the Koi-Khali wetland area of Sariakandi and informed police. Family members then went to the scene and identified the body as Mannan’s.

Sariakandi police station officer-in-charge AFM Asaduzzaman said it was initially suspected that miscreants had strangled the driver, Mannan, to death after robbing the auto-rickshaw, and had also taken his mobile phone. The body was recovered and sent to the morgue of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
