Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has given a message on the protests continuing across India over the paper leak. In a post on social media, he said a transparent system needs to be built in which no student feels that the value of their hard work has not been recognised.

Without commenting directly on the movement demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Sachin stressed the importance of honesty, hard work and merit. Recalling the values his father taught him, Sachin wrote: “My father was a professor. He was a teacher and guide to many students. From childhood he taught me one lesson — failure can be accepted, but cheating cannot. Never choose shortcuts.”

In the former India cricketer’s view, a culture should be built in which hard work is valued more than results and merit is the only measure of success.

Sachin said: “As adult members of society it is our responsibility to build the culture. If only results are valued instead of hard work, people will seek shortcuts rather than merit. If students today feel that their hard work has not been valued, it is natural for them to be frustrated. Ensuring that no student has to face such a situation in future should be our goal.”
