A farmer, Rupon Mia, 35, died of an electric shock while using an electric fan to winnow paddy in Bakshiganj, Jamalpur, a local official said.
The incident took place around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday (June 16) in Surjonagar village of the upazila’s Sadar union.
Rupon Mia was the son of Hazrat Ali of Surjonagar Purba Para village.
Mirza Sohel, panel chairman of the Sadar Union Parishad, said that around noon Rupon was winnowing paddy with a stand fan in the yard of his own home when he accidentally became entangled with an electric wire. Relatives took him to the upazila health complex in critical condition, where an on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Bakshiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Makbul Hossain said: “We sent police to the scene on receiving the news. Legal proceedings are under way.”
