With supply down, almost all vegetable prices have risen week-on-week. Green chilli, in particular, jumped 40 taka in one go. Egg prices have also edged up, though chicken is selling at the previous rates.

Sellers say continuous rain across the country has damaged crops, while transport disruption has cut vegetable supply into Dhaka, leaving the market somewhat unstable. Buyers, however, say that although a shortage is cited as the reason, there is no actual scarcity of vegetables in the market.

Every shop is well stocked with vegetables, yet they must be bought at higher prices.
