To strengthen power-saving efforts, the government has again ordered all shopping malls, markets and shops across the country to close by 7 p.m. At the same time, all billboard lighting must be switched off by 7 p.m., and ongoing and upcoming fairs, trade fairs and cultural events must also end by 7 p.m.
The Power Division’s Coordination-2 branch issued the directive on Monday and sent it to the mayors and administrators of all city corporations, divisional commissioners and district commissioners.
The order said that, under an earlier directive from the prime minister, a decision to keep shopping malls, markets and shops open only until 7 p.m. to save power had been in effect, but that the limit had been temporarily extended to 10 p.m. for Eid ul-Azha to facilitate trade.
The new directive said that, with the special Eid concession having expired, the earlier decision has been reinstated from June 1, so all shopping malls, markets and shops must wind up activities by 7 p.m. instead of 10 p.m.
The order also said all billboard lights must be switched off by 7 p.m., with the same deadline applying to fairs, trade fairs and cultural events held around the country. The Power Division asked all relevant administrative authorities to take necessary steps to implement the directive.
