Seventeen officials of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), the capital market regulator, have been forced into retirement. Additionally, five officials at various levels have had their salaries reduced to the lowest grade.
The decision was made at a BSEC commission meeting Tuesday, August 18. A show-cause notice had earlier been issued on July 23, asking the accused officials why punitive action should not be taken against them.
Those sent into forced retirement include BSEC Executive Director Rezaul Karim; Directors Abul Hasan and Mohammad Fakhrul Islam Mazumder; Additional Directors Nazrul Islam and Molla Md Miraz Us Sunnah; Joint Director Rashedul Alam; Deputy Directors Md Nannu Bhuiyan, Kazi Md Al-Islam, Sahidul Islam, Bani Yamin Khan, and Touhid Hasan; Assistant Directors Aminul Haque Khan, Abdul Baten, and Sajjad Hossain; and Personal Officers Abu Yousuf, Kawsar Pasha Bristy, and Somir Ghosh.
Separately, Assistant Directors Jony Hossain, Rayhan Kabir, Tariqul Islam, and Maksud Mila, along with librarian Selim Reza Bappy, received the punishment of salary demotion.
Earlier, at the start of this year, BSEC had also sent Director Abu Rayhan Md Mohtasin Billah into forced retirement.
