Ashiqur Rahman named Bangladesh Bank executive director

Mohammad Ashiqur Rahman, director of Bangladesh Bank’s Chattogram office, has been promoted to the post of executive director of the central bank.

He was promoted on Sunday, June 14, and attached to the human resources department at the head office.

Ashiqur Rahman began his career at Bangladesh Bank in 1999 as an assistant director. Over his career he held various important roles at the Bangladesh Bank head office, including in banking supervision, the Central Bank Strengthening Project (CBSP), forex reserve and treasury management, the Bangladesh Bank Training Academy and the SME department.

At the international level, he served as vice chair of the Gender Inclusive Finance Committee of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) from June 2023 to September 2024.

Ashiqur earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the accounting department of the University of Dhaka. As part of his professional training, he obtained a DAIBB from the Institute of Bankers Bangladesh and a higher degree in computer applications from the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management. He was born in Palashtali village of Raipura upazila in Narsingdi.
