Prime Minister Tarique Rahman called for increased Saudi investment in Bangladesh.

Emphasizing solar power, Rahman said Bangladesh had created a favorable investment environment and was implementing extensive programs to expand clean-energy use. Investment by Saudi companies in the sector would benefit both countries, he said.

The prime minister made the remarks Tuesday during a courtesy meeting with Saudi Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Engineer Waleed El-Khereiji at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Both sides agreed to take relations between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia to a new level.

Assistant Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Gazi Shahriar Pamir provided details of the meeting.

Pamir said El-Khereiji observed that Rahman’s leadership had created a positive investment environment in Bangladesh.

Saudi Arabia was sincerely interested in strengthening relations between the two countries under those conditions, El-Khereiji said.

He also reiterated the Saudi government’s interest in expanding cooperation and investment across several promising sectors.

The Saudi vice minister praised the important contribution of Bangladeshi workers to Saudi Arabia’s development.

Pamir said El-Khereiji congratulated the prime minister on the election of Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman as president of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The prime minister said relations between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia were founded on mutual trust and longstanding friendship. His government wanted to build a strategic, multidimensional and long-term partnership with Saudi Arabia, he said.

El-Khereiji said Saudi Arabia was interested in investing in processed food, seafood, tropical food, agro-industry, information technology, artificial intelligence, renewable energy and other promising sectors in Bangladesh.

At the end of the meeting, the Saudi vice minister invited Rahman to visit Saudi Arabia.

The prime minister thanked him for the invitation and hoped to visit at a convenient time, Pamir said.

The Saudi delegation included Interior Ministry Adviser Lt. Gen. Sulaiman bin Abdulaziz Al-Yahya; Deputy Minister for Consular Affairs Dr. Mohammed Al-Shammari; Human Resources and Social Development Deputy Minister Muhannad bin Ahmed Al-Issa; Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Abdullah bin Abiyah; and senior officials from the Saudi foreign and interior ministries.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid and the prime minister’s foreign affairs adviser Humayun Kabir attended for Bangladesh.
