The profit of Berger Paints Bangladesh, a multinational company listed on the stock market, rose by 27 crore taka, or about 7.75 percent, in one year. At the close of the financial year ended in March, the company’s profit stood at 377 crore taka, up from 350 crore taka the previous year. The financial statements for the April-March accounting year were finalized at a board meeting held on Monday, where the profit figures were disclosed.
As a listed company, Berger disclosed key financial information to investors on Tuesday through the websites of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chattogram Stock Exchange (CSE). At the same Monday meeting, a dividend for the just-ended accounting year was also declared. The company decided to pay shareholders a 525 percent cash dividend for the April-March accounting year. Under the declared dividend, a shareholder will receive 52.5 taka for each share held. Those holding the company’s shares on the record date will be entitled to the dividend. For the 2025 accounting year, the company had also paid a 525 percent cash dividend. By that measure, the dividend did not rise even though profit increased.
The dividend declared by Berger Paints Bangladesh for the financial year ended in March will require the company to distribute about 258 crore taka. That is, the company will distribute about 68 percent of its 377 crore taka profit for that accounting year as dividends to shareholders. The largest share will go to the company’s foreign shareholders, who own about 90 percent of the company. Against that ownership, the foreign owners will receive 231 crore taka in dividends. Of the remaining 10 percent, about 8 percent is held by institutional investors, who will receive 21 crore taka in dividends. Individual retail investors hold 2 percent of the shares, against which they will receive about 5.25 crore taka in dividends.
Berger Paints Bangladesh has set July 7 as the record date for determining who is legally entitled to the declared dividend. Those holding the company’s shares on that day will receive the dividend. The dividend will be distributed after the company’s annual general meeting (AGM), to be held on August 24, as it can be paid only after shareholder approval at the AGM.
After the dividend announcement and the year-end profit disclosure, Berger Paints Bangladesh shares fell on the stock market on Tuesday. By about 1:15 p.m. on the Dhaka market, each share was down 18 taka, or about 1.25 percent, at 1,415 taka.
