Police have recovered the hanging body of a 16-year-old domestic worker from a flat in Parshuram, Feni.

The body was recovered on Thursday evening from a third-floor flat in Kader Tower, next to the upazila gate.

The girl was originally from the Sebarhat area of Senbag upazila in Noakhali. Because of family problems, about three years ago she had begun working as a domestic help at the flat of her employer, an assistant teacher at a local government primary school in Parshuram.

According to police and local sources, the employer returned from school on Thursday afternoon and found the door of the flat locked from the inside. After calling out and knocking for a long time without any response, she broke the door open with the help of local people and went inside. She then found the girl hanging from the ceiling fan by a scarf. On being informed, police went to the scene, recovered the body, prepared an inquest report and sent the body to the morgue of Feni General Hospital for a post-mortem.

The officer-in-charge (OC) of Parshuram model police station, Ashraful Islam, said police had gone to the scene quickly on being informed and recovered the body. Whether it was a suicide, or whether there was some other cause or abetment behind it, is being investigated, he said. The real cause of death can be confirmed after the post-mortem report is received, after which necessary steps will be taken in accordance with the law.
