Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has stressed the need to build an accurate and acceptable database in order to deliver Family Card benefits to the country’s genuine beneficiaries in an effective, transparent and error-free way.

He made the remarks while chairing a meeting on the planning and implementation strategy for expanding the Family Card programme, held at the Cabinet Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat. The prime minister’s deputy press secretary, Zahidul Islam Roni, said the meeting held detailed discussions on progress in implementing the “Family Card” programme — one of the key commitments in the BNP’s election manifesto — and on a roadmap for expanding it nationwide in phases.

The prime minister stressed adopting a realistic plan to roll out the Family Card programme across the country step by step, making the best use of modern technology, and ensuring effective coordination among all relevant ministries and agencies. He also directed those concerned to ensure the highest transparency and accountability at every stage of data collection, verification and beneficiary selection.

Those present at the meeting included Social Welfare Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin, the prime minister’s adviser Mahdi Amin, and the prime minister’s principal secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, among others.
