A sirat olympiad and prize-giving organised by Islami Chhatra Shibir has been held at Feni Government College to mark the holy Siratunnabi (peace be upon him). More than 400 students took part.
Mufti Abdul Hannan, a member of the central majlis-e-shura of Jamaat-e-Islami and the Feni district ameer, attended the event in the college auditorium on Sunday morning as chief guest and handed out the prizes.
The event was chaired by the president of the Chhatra Shibir college unit, Shahidul Islam. The main speaker was the organisation’s central higher education and research secretary, Fakhrul Islam.
The Chhatra Shibir college unit secretary, Touhidul Islam Mamun, conducted the programme. The special guests were the Feni town unit president Shafiqul Islam and the district president Imam Hossain Arman. The organisation’s town media secretary, Fakhrul Islam Palash, gave the welcome address.
In his address as chief guest, Mufti Abdul Hannan said: “The life of the Messenger, peace be upon him, needs to be studied. His life needs to be discussed. The ideals he left behind stand until the day of judgment. He came to establish the faith. He fought to establish it.”
He said: “We will shape ourselves according to the life of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. We must shape ourselves according to the Quran sent by Allah. Today’s young generation will lead the future. Those of you here are the future. You will shape yourselves inspired by the ideals of the Messenger, peace be upon him.”
The main speaker, Fakhrul Islam, said: “We will arrange our lives in the way the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, showed us. And to do that we will recite the Quran that Allah sent. We must read all the books that exist and that have been written about the Messenger, peace be upon him. We must study much more. The ideals of the Messenger, peace be upon him, should be present in the way we conduct ourselves.”
Fifty of the more than 400 students who took part in the olympiad were given prizes. The first five received cash along with their prizes. Fifty students were also given crests and gift bags.
